St. Bart's Or Bust!

SBH Insider
How badly do we want to return to St.Barts? When there was a chance that we might have to take the boat (at the time no one was sure how badly the airport was damaged) my wife said she would do it. In the 25 years we’ve been going she has never gone by boat, just deathly afraid of it.

This trip will be one of the most important trips we’ve taken to the island. Yes there will be walking the beaches, swimming, reading in the hammock, great lunches and dinners, but nothing more important then just being there to support the wonderful people who work and live there. I get choked up just thinking about it.

Have a marvelous getaway. Enjoy the hammock...my favorite island villa treat. Glad they can hang one for you!

Crescent, as elgreaux pointed out how would you get to the point of embarkation? The timetable for restoration of the airport in SXM is not actually known but initial reports are months away. Is the ferry from SXM a viable alternative given the amount of damage on the island? Although I've taken it and rather enjoyed the trip the ferry is on the other side of the island from the airport. Although rebuilding, the ferry port in St Barths seemed to be heavily damaged as well.
It would be interesting in the evolving alternatives.

Elgreaux and Mwgrzelak, a private boat charter from St Kitts, on a calm day if at all possible, slightly over twice the distance St. Martin St. Barts.

yes about twice the distance,

St Martin to St Barth 19.67 miles, and 17.08 nautical miles (Simpson bay)
St Kitts to St Barth 37.58 miles and 32.64 nautical miles

a high-speed motor boat? MikeR, MartinS, just curious how long that might take?

A high speed motor boat from St. Kitts to St. Barth will take somewhere between an hour and the rest of your life, depending entirely on how rough are the seas and one's ability to tolerate them.

Can't agree more! We are still hopeful for December. We heard yesterday that the beaches aren't open yet. They are still testing the water. We are optimistic that we can come, and we also want to support all the people who are working so hard to get things back.

Hi Crescentbeach,
Your wife must be related to my spouse's. Tim nailed it with his reply!!!!

Crescent we can’t help but get seasick reading your posts. Good luck going both ways by boat from 40 miles out. At least you will both lose a little weight on the journeys.LOL!

Check Winair’s schedule. You may only have to do the boat one way. I see a few flights in the latter part of November from SBH to SKB, but none from SKB to SBH.

“Also effective this Friday October 6 Winair will commence commercial service to the destinations Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Barth and St. Kitts. Possibly other destinations will be added as well.”

I'm heartsick to report that the owner of the villa we had reserved for Oct 29 - Nov 8 has now cancelled our reservation, due to unreliable power and no wifi. We are working hard to figure out a plan that brings us back to our beloved island asap with reasonable creature comforts that also allow us to support the tourism economy and rebuilding efforts.
