How much would you have tipped?

We had a great stay at Le P’Tit Morne, but I was conflicted about how much of a tip to leave for housekeeping. Per their website, housekeeping is provided every 3 days (except Sunday and holidays). There was no definition of what “housekeeping” included.

We arrived on Wednesday and departed the following Thursday morning. During our stay, our dirty towels were replaced and our trash was emptied on Monday and Wednesday. The bed was made with existing linens on Monday. There was no other service provided (no cleaning in bathroom or kitchen, no sweeping the floor, no putting away dishes that I washed by hand and left out to dry).

What tip would you have left?

I’ll admit that I was considering something in the €20-30 range, but compared to the “normal” forum recommendation of €10-20/day this seemed quite low.

I guess this brings up the question of what are your expectations in terms of housekeeping service? In the US post-covid, hotel housekeeping has gone through a major downshift in terms of quality and frequency. Has this become the norm in SBH as well? What is normal to receive on a daily basis? Were my expectations too high?

I think it depends, at a 5-star hotel or luxury villa, you are going to get a different housekeeping experience that at Le P'Tit Morne, which is now run more as an airbnb than a hotel...

I definitely agree, which is why I was having the dilemma with tipping. We’ve gone back and forth between p’tit morne and villas over the years, and this is the first time there’s been a distinct difference in the quality of housekeeping. It won’t influence my decision about staying there in the future as I believe it’s an incredible value on an otherwise very expensive island. And, truth be told, I’m perfectly happy spending more on great meals and less on housekeeping tips!
