As expected, back to normal in 2020 (best case scenario)

The Princess Juliana International Airport, SXM, is focused firmly on major hurricane resilience, energy efficiency and cost savings, state of the art systems as well as improved security and operational process flows as it continues its rebuilding efforts post Hurricane Irma.
Similarly, the airport plans include an Air Service Recovery approach that means a return to 2016 as baseline. The idea is to prioritize 16 destinations and set frequency goals, with the year 2020 as the target for normalization of services and operations, which will be contingent upon the island’s hotel inventory getting back to normal by said date.
The Terminal Building reconstruction plans will feature expanded space that would also accommodate the proposed US Pre-Clearance

And that's the absolute best case scenario...WOW

Great news that one day we will have preclearance. 2 more years seems quick given how little they have done in 6 months and given their insurance companies issues.

And 2020 is only a 'goal'. I wish them good things and look forward to the announcement that all is well with St Maarten along with its airport.

Don't know the current number of flights but Air France/klm are increasing the number of flights for the coming winter season: 5 per week to sxm from cdg and 3 per week from ams to sxm. what's interesting is that there seems to be code share for those flights with winair. maybe it's always like that. like the old days with us airways.
