La Licorne

We went to the newest iteration of La Licorne last night for dinner, same location in Lorient under the huge mango tree in the garden of the old eponymous nightclub. The chef is Romain Gouiran who has formerly worked at Esprit with Jean-Claude Dufour and as chef at Kiki è Mo. It's a charming laidback spot, filled with locals last night. Menu is on a blackboard (l'ardoise) and featured about 5 appetizers, 5 main courses and two desserts, profiteroles and almond tart. Appetizers ranged from house-smoked Wahoo tartar to chicken springrolls, while the mains ranged from court bouillon with local fish to filet of red snapper, steak, and a shrimp dish. The food is good and reasonably priced for St Barth.

No food photos - just the smiling chef....

I’ll “second” your recommendation, Ellen . . . I, however, would say that I enjoyed an excellent lunch there yesterday (i.e., exceeding “good”).

in addition to the work that you described for Romain, I would add that he operated a catering business at La Pointe in the past couple of years, until opening this new venture. The restaurant — very casual & comfortable — will be open for lunch six days/week (closed Sundays) & for dinner on Friday & Saturday nights.

Here are some photos from yesterday’s lunch.

. . . a lovely wine, of course (served by very sweet Nina, an evening server at L’Esprit)

Dessert of homemade Tarte Amandine a la Mango . . . just right, not too sweet.

I think it’s a Winner . . . great new addition to St. Barths’ dining scene — especially as an uptick among luncheon venues.

The old nightclub precedes us. Where in Lorient?
Same building . . . at the end closest to the Bay & to the former Normandie Hotel (the other end used to house a Chinese restaurant (“Le Wok”) & several subsequent restaurants (most recently, I think it was a Portuguese restaurant)).

The other part of the building was - or maybe still is - a restaurant called La Boheme. I agree with Dennis that much of the food was excellent, but there were a few things that needed improvement, we mentioned one and Romain was very glad to get the feedback. We will definitely be going back...

I believe that La Boheme no longer is a restaurant at that building.

Last year La Boheme was operating as a restaurant, went there a couple of times the past 4-years. Open, then Close. Open, then Close which is the current.
