And to hopefully end this, the Phillies announced that cops will no longer go on the ballfield to apprehend crashers unless specifically asked for. The Phillies were obviously embarrassed by all the attention this got as this is not the image they want- they are a classy organization and don't need this agita.

Some kid does a dumb thing and the team is embarassed?

Might want to think about replacing the warning track w a moat. Be fun to watch long fly balls, too....

They are only doing what they have been doing before this- security will tackle the interloper and turn him over to the cops. BTW- not too long ago there was this buxom woman who would jump onto the ballfield plant a big kiss on a player and then jump back into the stands- of course that was the 70s when everything went on- how times change.

Dont Tase me Bro!

And sports fans all over the country have to thank their lucky stars that as of yet Al Sharpton has not come up with a reason to enter this controversy.

In all seriousness --

I used to defend P Chicago POs (internal affairs and Office of Prof the Standards). I got to know them pretty well and genuinely liked most of them.
If the POs had tackled the guy and in doing so, "accidently" put a knee into his head or something, I wouldn't get too wound up. Run from the cops, get tackled, these things happen.

But this incident was different. A fat PO got lazy. I expect POs to show judgment. If you can't tell a drunken (or high) idiot running onto the field from a terrorist, then you should not be on the job.

And yes, fat matters. These guys are paid to chase people down. You need to be in shape to do the job.

<< I expect POs to show judgment. If you can't tell a drunken (or high) idiot running onto the field from a terrorist, then you should not be on the job.>>>

and if by some abomination the kid WAS a terrorist, you'd be asking why the cop didn't shoot him, right?

Kinda like "why didn't the cop shoot to wound??" or "couldn't they TELL it was only a wallet in a darkened hallway??"

Google "adrenaline dump".
It's easy to second guess a cop when you're not in his shoes. IMHO, he showed good judgement.

Frankly, I'm happy if we treat all such occasions like this in precisely that manner. I think the Phillies wimped out...and I also think a large sporting event is a natural target for a terrorist>

sooner or later, we need to take this stuff seriously.

<<<And yes, fat matters. These guys are paid to chase people down. You need to be in shape to do the job.>>>>

Sorta like a lawyer needs to be, uh, smart?

<<<And every Chicago PO that I know would tell me that the Philly PO got lazy and used poor judgment. This was an idiot kid. If a PO can't tell the difference, I don't want the PO on the job.>>>

I love when you call me uninformed. One step closer to nirvana. If you ever call me a total blithering idiot, I may reincarnate on the spot.

You and every Chicago cop you know can put it where the monkey put the nut. You have an OPINION on the officer's conduct, not the absolute final word...Were you there? Was the entire Chicago PD? Or a few of the guys you know?

Stop pontificating, willya? Gets old fast.

So what the cop was fat. Most of you making the comment should look in the mirror. How far could you have chased him? He was what, 17? Damn, I am in good shape, run all the time, and I couldn't have caught him ! Get your lame ass out there and catch a 17 year old!!!!!!

Uh, Martin, about your not being able to catch a 17 year old? I offer up the below photo of exhibit A - :)

I believe that most people just laugh at the Rev's (Jackson and Sharpton)...their choice of causes just hasn't been that good.

Thanks..... Lisa rarely comes in here so I'm safe..... If she sees it I may never hear the end of it. I am dragging a new camera to the island in June and hope to get some great photos, and not all fish pictures......
